Wrap vs Mela
Mela is, by some margin, the nicest-looking recipe app on Apple platforms. It is native everywhere, it costs a few dollars once, and it is made with obvious care.
It also solves a different problem. Mela describes its own import routes as an in-app browser, a share extension, recipe-blog subscriptions and scanning a page out of a cookbook with text recognition. Wrap exists for the recipe that was never written down anywhere — the one a stranger narrated over a sixty-second video.

Where Mela beats Wrap
- Cookbook scanning. Point it at a page in a physical book and it reads the recipe in. Wrap has nothing like this and it is a lovely feature.
- Recipe blog subscriptions. Follow your favourite food blogs and read new recipes inside the app. Wrap does not do this either.
- A shared iCloud recipe library. Mela can share a library with other iCloud users. Wrap has no household sharing at all.
- Print and PDF. Mela prints properly and saves to PDF. Wrap does not print — our export is plain text and a shareable card.
- Design. Credit where it is due. If the app looking beautiful matters to you, go and look at Mela's screenshots.
Where Wrap beats Mela
- Video is the whole point. Share a Reel, TikTok or Short and Wrap reads the caption, transcribes the voiceover and reads the on-screen text to reconstruct quantities nobody ever typed. An in-app browser has no page to read on those.
- Reddit, including the comments. Wrap reads a thread's replies, which is where Reddit recipes usually live.
- Free today. Wrap costs nothing right now. Mela is a small one-off purchase, so this is a mild advantage rather than a decisive one.
- A card you can send to someone with no app. They read the whole recipe in a browser without installing anything.
Which should you pick?
Pick Mela if your recipes come from cookbooks, food blogs and websites, if you want to share a library with your household, or if you simply want the most beautiful option. It is a better-looking and more mature app than ours.
Pick Wrap if the recipes you lose are the ones you see on your phone — saved to a folder, never cooked, no ingredient list anywhere.
They coexist well. Mela for the cookbook shelf and the blogs, Wrap for the endless scroll. Wrap copies any recipe to the clipboard as plain text, so moving one across is a paste.
Questions
Can Mela import from Instagram or TikTok?
Mela's own site lists an in-app browser, a share extension, blog subscriptions and cookbook scanning as the ways recipes get in. Social video is not among the routes it advertises. Verify against their site rather than trusting a competitor — including us.
Does Wrap scan cookbooks?
No. If reading recipes out of physical books matters to you, that alone is a good reason to choose Mela.
Can I share my recipes with my partner in Wrap?
Not as a shared library — Wrap has no household sharing. You can send an individual recipe as a card that opens in any browser. Mela does the shared-library version properly.
Is Wrap free forever?
No. A paid tier is coming. Accounts created before the founding cutoff keep unlimited caption imports permanently, and nothing already saved is ever removed or locked.
Can I use both?
Yes, and plenty of people reasonably would. Copy a recipe out of Wrap as plain text and paste it into Mela whenever you want something to live in your permanent collection.
